About Graeme

I was born in Belfast in May 1969 and lived most of my life near Glengormley (County Antrim) on the outskirts of Belfast until a new work challenge brought me to East Kilbride in June 1997.

Strathaven had always been an aspiration for Fiona (my wife) and I so in September 2005 we moved to Fortrose Gardens, just off Hamilton Road with our two boys (Mathew – left and Craig – right).

I believe at the heart of every community is its' people so like so many others in this wonderful part of Lanarkshire, Fiona and I try to give something back to our community:

v  For several years now, Fiona has run the Thursday night Beaver group at the Strathaven Scout Hall, offering an extremely worthwhile outlet for energetic young boys with an appetite for adventure.

v  I joined the Strathaven and District Round Table shortly after moving to Strathaven and enjoy the friendship of a like-minded group of guys and at the same time, raising around £10,000 each year for worthy causes in the Strathaven area.

With over 25-years experience in the IT industry, working in partnership with the public sector, I intend to use this experience to work in partnership with the local community, my three councillor colleagues (Lynn Filshie, Bill Holman & Jim Malloy) and South Lanarkshire Council to try and make the Strathaven, Stonehouse and the wider Avondale area, the best community in South Lanarkshire.

I promised the people in Avondale, if they elected me to SLC, I would work on their behalf to secure a better deal for everyone!

When I received the mandate from the ward-5 voters, I promised that politics would end until the run-up to the next local election; so until then I will continue work in partnership with all political parties (where possible) to ensure we all deliver on our promises that we made prior to the May 3rd 2007 local elections.

Ive always stated that I am a team player and in partnership with Fiona, I intend to help everyone in Avondale and Stonehouse make this a truly fantastic place to live.
