      Murray Drive Report - 150208

Built in the early 1970’s, Murray Drive was one of this area’s flagship council estates. Sadly 30+ years on, the estate has been left to rot.

  • Roads and footpaths have never been touched!
  • Council houses not being maintained.
  • A council-house sell-off policy that has been a failure, due to its own success.
  • House prices falling due to the state of the area.
  • A gang style culture from kids that are left to run-a-mock, making everyone’s life in Murray Drive a misery.

I’d love to be able to fix all of Stonehouse but being only one councillor, I’ve got to prioritise my workload and since the people of Murray Drive came to me first, I’ve decided that Murray drive is first on my Stonehouse hit list. If anyone in Stonehouse reading this feels this is unjust, I would remind you that I am only of four councillors representing you so please feel free to contact any of the other three councillors. You can find all their contact details on my CONTACT pages.

The project so far:

1)      I met onsite with SLC housing and technical services people (Inc SNP Councillor, and Bill Holman) onsite @ Murray Drive. We toured the area and talked to many residents about what would their lives better.

2)      Several weeks later, I met with SLC housing and technical services representatives at their Larkhall offices to discuss a plan. As a result, I’ve prepared a report on Murray Drive, which was presented to the Stonehouse Community Council. CLICK HERE to read this first report (PDF format).

3)      SLC have agreed to carry out a study of Murray Drive and present their findings to me in the very near future.

4)      At the April Stonehouse Community Council a number of Murray Drive residents were present and I updated them on my progress. The community Council has agreed to sponsor the set-up of a residents association, who will have one voice on behalf of everyone in Murray Drive.

My objective is to work with the residents of Murray Drive, the Stonehouse Community Council and South Lanarkshire Council to prepare a three to five year plan for Murray Drive. I will put my cards on the table now because if I do not get the support of the Murray Drive residents, I will drop this project and move onto another one. Without their help, this project will go nowhere!
