If
I have learnt anything since May 2007, local government should be free
from party politics!
Local
government is not about what happens in Westminster or Edinburgh! It
is however all about what happens in our own back yard!
In
August 2011 I was told to leave the Conservative party because a few
self-centred individuals did not like the truth. I have promised everyone
that I will continue to serve this community as an independent councillor
and fight what I believe is right for Strathaven, Stonehouse and rural
Avondale; free from the shackles of party politics and free to stand for
what is in the best interest of our citizens and not the parties so many
councillors are supposed to represent.
The
decision to grant planning permission for the Dovesdale incinerator at
Canderside Toll (Stonehouse) in early 2011 was the single most shocking
decision SLC has ever made! Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the Tories
ignored over 20,000 local people who objected, the same people they say they
are supposed to represent. Those who voted to accept the planning
application did this in the name of the council and hid behind
legislation that should have allowed the planning committee to deliver
democracy to a process that was flawed from the start. Those councillors
that voted for this incinerator should hang their heads in same as they
failed in their duty to listen to the people they are supposed to serve.
