At the heart of my manifesto during the May 2007 local elections was "a common sense approach to local government," delivering:

• Better roads in Avondale.

• A common sense approach to planning

• A more efficient council, ensuring your hard earned council tax goes to better use.

• A solution to anti social behaviour in our towns.

• A Council that will have no option but to listen to the people living in Avondale.

At the half term point, during one of the worst recessions in recent history, everyone across South Lanarkshire (inc. Avondale) are seeing a real improvement in the services delivered by South Lanarkshire Council:

ü  Strathaven Academy is now within the top 15 secondary schools in Scotland and despite the last two years and a difficult decant to East Kilbride, the school results have been outstanding.

ü  We are seeing a massive improvement in our roads across the county and this summer will see the conclusion of the road improvement programme that I promised Strathaven back in 2007; delivering improvements to Hamilton Road, East Kilbride Road, Commercial Road, North Street, Station Road, Lesmahagow Road and countless others.

ü  Smellies got their new site off Hamilton Road and in partnership with SLC planning; a new access road was constructed away from the disputed lane next to the rugby club.

ü  Avondale Vets got their brand new practice within the new Smellies complex after a lot of hard work by councillors and officers, working together.

The work doesn't stop here! In the second half of this council, I pledge to continue working in partnership with my three ward-5 councillors and the entire council to continue the improvements we all promised prior to the local election on 3^rd May 2007.
